Autodesk compra Alias: la fine di un'epoca?
On Oct. 4, 2005, Autodesk announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Alias, a privately held developer of 3D graphics technology, for $182 million in cash. This acquisition will grow Autodesk's expertise and offerings in the film and video, interactive games, media, Web, consumer products, industrial design, automotive, architecture and visualization markets. Autodesk anticipates that the transaction will close within the next four to six months.
E' la notizia del giorno, rimbalzata da oltre oceano nella notte. Autodesk ha ufficializzato l'acquisto di Alias per la cifra di 182 milioni di dollari cash. Viene da chiedersi se una casa produttrice di software primariamente tecnici come Autodesk, punti ora al monopolio, inglobando una società, Alias, che da sempre si è occupata di effetti visuali ed industrial design...
Alias, produttrice storica di Maya e Studiotools, è stata fondata nel 1983 come Alias Research. Nel 1995 si è fusa con Wavefront Tecnologies sotto l'egida di SGI, separandosi poi dal colosso del visual computing nel 2003 per diventare completamente autonoma come Alias nel 2004.
