GreenSpider r2.1 real time presentation in Marseille

Lunedì 28 Ottobre 2013, 12:05

Simultaneously to the talk given by Simone Garagnani in Marseille at Digital Heritage 2013 in these minutes (12.10 CET), this is the HD video showing the brand new installation process and some complex geometries used as test case studies, which contributed to GreenSpider further algorithm developments.

Plo.T. - AutoCAD Plotting Tool

Martedì 20 Agosto 2013, 19:44

Plo.T. The association City Space Architecture, in collaboration with the TC Project research lab, is happy to offer to all visitors of its website the free CAD utility Plo.T., developed by S. Garagnani for his lazy CAD students and friends!

Are you tired of losing your mind filling the AutoCAD plot window with numbers difficult to calculate, especially the night before an exam or a delivery? Plo.T. (Plotting Tool) is for you and it's free to use! Plo.T. is a tiny software for MS Windows that does the math for you! Just choose how your drawing was made, choose your plot scale and Plo.T. will suggest you right parameters to print from AutoCAD Model Space or setting proper Layout window's values.

Plo.T. r0.1 can be downloaded from the City Space Architecture repository.

GreenSpider goes academic

Sabato 20 Luglio 2013, 07:56

The importance of BIM in existing architectures, as I often discussed, is becoming more and more admitted. So, I'm very happy to ascertain this peculiar aspect is beginning to be explored in the academic field as well as in practices.

Angeliki Bregianni's Revit model Vault modeled by A. Bregianni using GreenSpiderGreenSpider is only a modest tool aimed to ease these researches, and it proves to be useful in some cases: Dr. Angeliki Bregianni, for example, used GreenSpider successfully modeling some vaults in her Diplomas Thesis entitled "BIM Development for Cultural Heritage Management", supervised by Prof. A. Georgopoulos (National Technical University of Athens) and Prof. R. Brumana (Politecnico di Milano), at the Faculty of Rural and Surveying Engineering.

Excellent work Angeliki! The whole theme, pertaining an historical church survey and its BIM semantic modeling, was dealt with clearly obtaining wonderful results, not only in parts modeled with GreenSpider.

Different purpose but great results as well in Luca Nazzari's Degreee Thesis in Architectural Engineering, entitled "Ingegnerizzazione del processo architettonico: progetto di un impianto sportivo nell’area Prati di Caprara a Bologna", supervised by Prof. R. Mingucci, Prof. A. Erioli, and me. Luca defended his thesis a couple of days ago in Bologna, proving how complex morphologies generated by Rhino+Grasshopper can be imported in Revit environment using GreenSpider. Nice!

GreenSpider test drive on existing buildings

Giovedì 20 Giugno 2013, 16:34

GreenSpider and historic vaultsIn my research, I'm deeply concerned about representing existing buildings in BIM domain. Thence, historical buildings are considerably a further reason for my interest. GreeenSpider was originally imagined as a piece of code able to traslate points as reference in Revit, with particular interest in Rhino+Grasshopper's parametric morphologies. However, dealing with real buildings, translating decimated point clouds from laser scanning or digital photogrammetry appeared to be feasible as well.

This post is intended as a practical example of GreenSpider implementation in real world documentation: in this case I would introduce a working pipeline on vault modeling in Revit from an accurate TLS survey.

Info

Welcome to these pages that host since 2004 Simone Garagnani's personal blog, a collection of nerd notes and geek experiences focused sometimes on Building Information Modeling, terrestrial laser scanning, digital photogrammetry and computer graphics applied to the AEC world. The TC Project is also available on Facebook.
